Club History

The Nambour Blue Demons Hockey Club (NBDHC) was born on the 11th May 1977. At the first meeting, a senior men's team and a girls team from Nambour State High School were formed. The blue uniform was inspired by the colours of the school, and the 'Demons' logo is thought to have come from the idea that the Club was comprised of players from many different areas around the Sunshine Coast.

Located in Nambour, the NBDHC clubhouse has had a colourful past. Originally located in the old timber police station right next to Petrie Creek, it was originally shared with the local Vigoro Club. In 1988, after suffering the impact of several local floods, the clubhouse was relocated to the other side of Petrie Park and elevated above the flood level. At this time the Vigoro Club folded and the Club began to share the clubhouse with the Petrie Park Craft Association, a relationship that continues today. Sadly, in 1997, the clubhouse was destroyed by fire. However, in 1999 the nearby Marching Girl clubhouse was remodeled and became the Price Bade Complex as it exists today, featuring a grass playing field and high standard floodlighting.

Nambour's hockey club has fielded teams in the Sunshine Coast Hockey Association's competition every year since 1977. Our first major achievement was winning the A Grade Men's Minor Premiership in 1978. In 1989, NBDHC had a team in every grand final (but sadly lost them all!), and in 1990 the Women's A Grade team won their first premiership. Since then, NBDHC teams have continued to excel, with the Division 1 Women's team currently enjoying a winning streak of 9 of the last 12 premierships, from 2009  to 2021!
